Dubliner Says Family Didn’t Believe He’d Won €500,000 EuroMillions Prize
A man from Dublin has revealed that he had to come forward quickly to claim a big EuroMillions prize as it was the only way to convince his girlfriend and family that he had won. He has already given a lot of thought to the future, though, and has vowed to use the money wisely.

The lucky player scooped the top prize of €500,000 in EuroMillions Plus on Tuesday 11th June, having bought a Quick Pick ticket from Dunnes Stores in the Scotch Hall shopping centre in Drogheda three days earlier.
When he popped in to a store to check his ticket after the draw, he said he started cheering and shouting when he realised he had won, to such an extent that ‘the rest of the customers must have thought I was absolutely mad’. He wanted to share his excitement with his loved ones, but they were very sceptical about his story.
“Honestly nobody would believe me,” said the winner as he collected his prize from National Lottery headquarters in Dublin. “After I had checked my ticket, I rushed home to tell everybody the news but they weren’t having any of it.
“They genuinely thought it was an elaborate joke but they’re slowly coming around to the idea that I’m €500,000 richer now. I’m glad to be able to finally claim the prize so I think they can start finally believing me for real!"
As well as trying to convince his friends and family about his big win, the Dubliner has spent most of the last week ‘carefully considering’ what he will do with his money, and he is determined to make sure that everyone around him feels the benefit.
He said: “I am renting an apartment in Dublin with my girlfriend which is obviously very expensive. We’ve started looking at houses so we hope to buy something nice very shortly. Other than buying a house, I am going to make sure that I look after my family and friends because they were there for me before this win so we’ll certainly be planning on enjoying it together as a group over the next coming days.”
What is EuroMillions Plus?
EuroMillions Plus is a supplementary draw that can be played alongside EuroMillions in Ireland. To take part, you just need to add the Plus option to your playslip and pay a small additional fee.
A separate EuroMillions Plus draw takes place every Tuesday and Friday evening after the main game. Your five main numbers are entered into this draw and you can win prizes for matching three numbers or more. If you match all five, you are guaranteed to receive the €500,000 jackpot even if there are multiple winners.
The odds of winning EuroMillions Plus are far more favourable than the chances of winning the top prize in the main EuroMillions draw, although it is possible to win prizes in both games. The EuroMillions jackpot is up to €36 million ahead of Friday’s draw following a couple of rollovers. Check the EuroMillions Results straight after the draw to see if you are a winner.
