Will Another Weird Twist of Fate Lead to Irish Lotto Jackpot Win?

The largest Irish Lotto jackpot since 20th August will be up for grabs in tonight’s draw after the top prize climbed to an impressive €8.5 million. Players from across the country will be dreaming of how they might enjoy the seven-figure sum, or the amazing Christmas they could have even with a smaller win, and recent history suggests that you can stumble upon good fortune in the unlikeliest of ways.

A couple from Co Wicklow became €500,000 richer in October after the wife found a EuroMillions Plus ticket in her handbag, one month after the draw had taken place. Another woman, from Donegal, discovered an Irish Lotto entry worth €250,000 in her car after her children became convinced that they were the town’s mystery winners and pestered her to check everywhere.

As well as finding tickets in odd places, other winners have been grateful for unusual events that have reminded them to look at their numbers. One Lotto winner from Rialto in Dublin recalled recently: “I was making the casserole yesterday when I realised I’d no carrots, so I popped out to the shop. I’d bought a ticket for the Lotto draw the day before and I’d usually not bother to check it until the following week, but I checked it there and then in the shop.” The lucky player claimed €114,752 after matching five main numbers and the Bonus Ball on Saturday 3rd September.

There are a number of other players in the past couple of months who have found that playing in a syndicate is the best formula for Lotto success. A group of 20 soldiers from Stephens Barracks in Kilkenny landed €452,700, just months after deciding to play the game online, while a syndicate of 24 work colleagues from Arklow netted €156,002 on EuroMillions last month and immediately declared ‘it will be a happy Christmas for us all’.

The winners have kept coming in the past few weeks, with the EuroMillions Plus top prize of €500,000 given away in both of the last two draws. However, the Irish Lotto jackpot has continued to roll over since two ticket holders split €4.5 million on 1st October.

One of those winners thanked a black cat running across their path for persuading them to play, while the other was at a wedding when news of the Lotto being won reminded him to check his ticket, so it shows that good luck can strike when you least expect it. You can make searching for the results much easier than some of the recent winners, just by using the Irish Lottery Results Checker.

If you play via an authorised retailer, just remember to keep your ticket safe and online players should keep an eye out for the good news in their email inbox. Good luck!
